Science has confirmed that heartbreak really does... →
“In a new study using functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI), researchers have found that the same brain networks that are activated when you’re burned by hot coffee also light up when you think about a lover who has spurned you. In other words, the brain doesn’t appear to firmly distinguish between physical pain and intense emotional pain. Heartache and painful breakups are “more...

Thoughts on Freedom/Reading List
I have just finished Andy Zimmern’s The Bizarre Truth: Culinary Misadventures Around the Globe. He’s not the next great American novelist or anything, but his travel essays are a light read and a welcome hiatus from all the somber, serious books I read prior. I forgot to tell you, but I finished Freedom about two weeks ago and even though I recognize it as a great piece of literature,...

Live Simple
My parents always told me that when they first got married they had nothing, and it was the happiest time of their lives. I never understood that until now. When you are 23 and barely making ends meet, you realize how easy it is to go without: to go without adequate space, to go without cable tv, to go without a cars or taking cabs… to go without pretty pretty clothes.   One of my...

cherry blossoms to feed the soul
This weekend’s visit to DC was pure awesomeness.  It’s really really nice to get out of New York once in a while.  I forget how much I like interacting with friendly people and walking at a normal pace.  The streets were free of trash and hobos and I felt a calm and quiet that I haven’t felt in a long time.

15 things you may or may not know about me
I know who a lot of my blog readers are, but a lot of you I don’t know at all.  I begin to wonder how I come off as a person when all I blog about is Harry Potter, losing weight, cute animals, and of course funny, albeit stupid, shit I find on the internet.  So here are 15 things you may or may not know about yours truly! 1.  I was a FOB. The picture below is not me, but that haircut looks...

Donation Edit
For some reason, tumblr’s donation link on the side doesn’t work.  So I just went through the American Red Cross link and sent an email to Tumblr about matching my contribution.  I suggest you do the same.  Who knows, maybe you’ll get an extra $15 donation out of it.

One Year and Japan
It’s Friday and payday! The sun is shining and the tank is clean. The tank is clean! (10 points to Gryffindor is you know where that’s from) With the shiny new paycheck in the bank, I finally got a chance to donate to Japan.  I was going to donate through Red Cross, but it turns out that if you donate through tumblr, they actually match your donation up to $15.  You can obviously...

yoyo-ing... again
I lost 10 lbs, then found 5 more. So, the weekend with my friends set me back more than I imagined.  It was a once in a while ocassion, so I let myselt eat and eat and eat some more.  It wasn’t an overwhelming amount nor was it especially bad for you foods.  Aside from the gelato, cake, cookies, alcohol, fried chicken, fried fish tacos, and flan; we ate rather healthily.  Wait, no we...

The Second Sex
For those who didn’t know, March is Women’s History Month. In light of this,  I attended my first Daily Beast Women of the World conference via Live Stream in my building’s West lobby.  The two speakers I managed to catch were former Secretaries of State Condoleeza Rice and Madeleine Albright.  Even though I had to leave after only 30 minutes, I did manage to receive some food...

my friends, my loves
Not to revert back to my old emo, overcontemplating self, but I have been thinking a lot about how far we’ve come.  Boyfriends, jobs, and shitty situations have tried to thrash us, but we are all still here— some of us are 3,000 miles apart, but still just as close as ever.  I never expected that the ebullient 7th grader who use to share carrots with me in Bio would be the same girl...

why he's the one
I called him at 4am because I had a nightmare about being mudered by a neighbor.
F: Bear, can you sing me a song?
R: Sure, honey. (sleepily) "My milkshake brings all the boys to the yard and they're like it's better than yours........."

So, two days ago, I got my Urban Outfitters catalogue in the mail (which is like Christmas).  However, as I leafed through it, I went from pretty excited to thoroughly dissapointed.  I think my exact reaction was “ew.”   I’m glad people share my sentiments. “It used to be you’d walk into Urban Outfitters and it was all about the dress or it was all about...

I came across this campaign online and fell in love. I know it’s old, but it’s still insanely awesome.  I thought I’d share some of the photos with my fellow Disney freaks. ;) Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens- Sleeping Beauty Jessica Biel- Pocahontas Julianne Moore and Michael Phelps- The Little Mermaid Scarlett Johansson- Cinderella  Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony-...

health reform
As a kid, I never cared too much for physical exertion and strangely pitied those who spent their precious tv watching hours at the gym or running in the park.  I had always thought ”moving is for the obese,” and since I was barely 100 pounds, I spent most of my teen years watching back to back episodes of I Love Lucy with my arm elbow deep in a supersize bag of potato chips.   So I...
