So Brad totally talked about this in an interview, saying that Shiloh prefers to be addressed by all the family as John (and if anyone calls ze—I guess, I’m not sure if there are chosen gender pronouns yet, so I’m just going to use ze/zir—Shiloh, ze’ll be all “it’s JOHN OKAY?”) and prefers traditionally “masculine” things like swords and boy clothes etc., and he and Angelina don’t care because they a) recognize that not all children are the same/follow traditional gender binaries and b) they love John no matter what so it doesn’t matter to them what gender ze is. Which I thought was awesome/adorable.

The CVs were identical, apart from the name. Yet strangely, the male Dr. Miller was perceived (by both male and female reviewers) to have better research, teaching, and service experience than the luckless female Dr. Miller. Overall, about three-quarters of the psychologists thought that Dr. Brian was hirable, while only just under half had the same confidence in Dr. Karen. The same researchers also sent out applications for the position of tenured professor, again identical but for the male and female name at the top. This time, the application was so strong that most of the raters thought that tenure was deserved, regardless of sex. However, the endorsement of Karen’s application was four times more likely to be accompanied by cautionary caveats scrawled in the margins of the questionnaire: such as, ‘I would need to see evidence that she had gotten these grants and publications on her own’ and ‘We would have to see her job talk.’””

Emma Watson’s new role

Emma Watson is set for a “Harry Potter” reunion with the franchise’s producer, David Heyman.

Watson and Heyman will collaborate for “The Queen of the Tearling,” Variety reports. The upcoming project is the film adaptation of a book trilogy, to be published by Harper Collins in 2014. The trilogy is being hyped as the next “Game of Thrones,” penned by first-time author Erika Johansen.

Watson has signed on to star in the film, as well as serve as executive producer. While “The Queen of the Tearling” is still without a director or writer, and the first book has yet to hit stores, the rights to the novel were already acquired by Warner Bros.

About the book:

The book is part of Erika Johansen’s fantasy trilogy whose 19-year-old female lead was partly inspired by a speech the author heard Barack Obama give in 2007. Harper Collins will publish the trilogy, which has been described as a female “Game of Thrones” beginning in 2014. The book is set three centuries after an environmental catastrophe when a malevolent Red Queen holds considerable power.

The “female Game of Thrones”? What the fuck does that mean? Girls don’t read Game of Thrones? The Songs of Fire and Ice Trilogy is all about feminism and badass women. It’s times like these that I’m reminded of the Gloria Steinem quote, “Whoever has power takes over the noun—and the norm—while the less powerful get an adjective.”
